Default MSD Blaster coil

There's nothing wrong with the stock coil in my 87 NA but I do have a Blaster2 coil laying around so I was wondering if it will an improvement over the stock coil? it reliable? does it need a ballast when installing just the coil?
Thanks

For what it is worth..........

I installed a MSD coil in my 86 NA, don't think its a blaster 2. Noticed a slight increase in pick up. I don't think there was anything wrong with the stock unit but had the chance to get it for a good price with the wires so jumped at it. Since install I have put about another 15k on my car with no worries from it, and got it used to begin with.
