Default hand brake cable dilema

Since finishing the restoration on my car i left one thing unatended to, the hand brake cable.
I've tried adjusting it but it's at maximum and it still has a lot of slack.
Seems that the cable is longer that it should be ,i have about 5cm of extra cable on each side.
Can the cable strech over time ? This is the original cable ,thing is it was working great before removing it when i did the restoration.

If it worked fine before taking it apart, then something wasn't put back correctly.

I checked and rechecked everything ,the cable is way to long to be just an error....i think
I will have to buy new cables and see.

Catalin, have you removed your rear brake discs to check the pads and hardware? If something has broken or collapsed inside the drum, you could potentially get extra slack.

Something isn't right. The cables wouldn't suddenly stretch when taken apart and put back together. Did you roll the adjuster on the pads all the way in when you put it back together? That's what the PO did to mine. Another problem area is the little scissor actuator that goes between the two shoes at the bottom.

One thing to mention ,the cables were from my parts car and the hand brake worked excelent, mine had worn brake shoes, swapped everything over including trailing arms because that way i could clean everything and paint without keeping the car on jack stands.
I adjusted the adjuster first time around and again yesterday.
I will take some pictures so you see what is going on.

What did you do to the adjuster between the two brake shoes at the top behind the rotor? Is it adjusted all the way in? I'd start there and follow the adjustment procedure outlined in the FSM.
