*challenge completed* Help out a teen looking for wheels? (puppydog face)
#16
I had the PD's on my 924S back in high school and now have the Boxster wheels on my 944. I like them both, the Boxster wheels make the car look much newer, the PD's give it that classic 80's look which I love. If you do your own work, and own an air compressor, and oven big enough to fit a rim you may want to consider powder coating them your self. I have been looking it to powdering stuff and in all honesty it does not look that hard but I have never done it.

You should PM Hicks, he has a set of 17" mille twists for sale for $300 in colorado springs. Early offset too.
Shipping will get you close or over your limit, but they do look pretty nice. Im pretty sure he still has them. Hicks is a straight up guy, hes been grabbing parts from me for a while now i wouldn't hesitate to do a deal with him.

If I was in your shoes, I'd be looking at a set of Cayenne/Touareg wheels. They might need spacers, but the lugs are the same.

I honestly don't run my phone dials since I have a cool looking fat set of 18s for my 951. But.........I keep them on hand and plan on refinishing them because they are the early offset deep dish ones.
I've seen many of these polished up or painted to look VERY VERY cool on a 944. On a budget I would strip and painter polish the ones you have. Paint can be made just. Nice as powder coat for a fraction of the price and WAY WAY cheaper and easier to touch up when scratched.

Happy birthday! If you're coming to LA for wheels, hit me up, I just saw these on CL, no affiliation http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...896714550.html

While I wouldn't recommend buying a car on Craigslist you can catch some good "crackhead sales" for wheels. I've found that Craigslist does have its uses besides trying to find hookers to murder.
Personally, I like the phone dials. Its an 80s car, with 80s styling. If you put newer wheels on the car sometimes it just looks bad. But its your car and you have to be happy with it. That is what is most important.

Your buying a car, not a classified ad experience!
I've found some steller old Porsches on Craigslist. As a matter of fact my "one-off color", 2 owner, complete records, low mile, always garaged 928S4 was found on a craigslist in Iowa! Not everyone is going to list them in a collectors car guide or even something like cars.com!

Plenty of normal people use Craigslist every day. Sounds like you have a filtering problem.

But I totally disagree with your comments about buying a car. Sure you can find a good deal here and there but I would rather deal with someone from RL, Pelican, or PCA than a random person on CL or eBay. That's my opinion and you don't have to share it.

I don't. No offense to anyone on any of these sites but not every good owner is on a forum and many bad owners are on forums and want too much for their stuff!
Your better deals are always going to be the guy that bought a "Porsche" and followed the maintenance schedule but is not an enthusiast. So no mods and usually a much better price!
Just my $0.03 on it (little inflation in there)
All I'm really saying here is don't blame the messenger.

I hear you about the PD'S. I've had 3 944's and first thing I did was to get rid of the PD's. Last year I bought a set of 17" Cayman wheels on ebay from a guy who does "blinging" of Expensive cars and had taken these off for a set of some big ugly, shiny wheels. I paid $375 for them and put new rubber on them to fit the proper diameter for the speedo. I hope you can find a deal like that somewhere. I suggest daily visits to ebay, craigsnation.com and even google.
