Are the rods balanced togehter with the crank at the factory?

If in good enough shape to re-use the parts can be mixed up a little. What fortysixand two is probably referring to, is to weigh each part, ring, pin, piston.... often you can get very close without removing material by doing this. If you do have to remove material, on a V-8 there is extra material on the underside of the piston top for very slight grinding.
