Default 944 V8 - Hydroboost and Aircon

A couple questions regarding V8 conversions:

I understand you get a modified PS pump ($300) and use a Ford hydroboost system for the brakes? Is there a 'bomb' (pressure accumulator) in this setup? If not, do the brakes just go manual without the motor running or belt breakage?

Air Conditioning: Is this just a matter of getting custom hoses to the GM compressor or is there more to it?

Thanks,
-Joel.

Mate the Porsche system to the GM compressor is all you need to do for A/C.

The Ford system has a small accumulator on the hydroboost unit.

There will be others that can answer this better, but i have been doing alot of reading about the swaps and here is what i have found out. I am planning on doing a LS1 swap into my car so i have been trying to learn as much as i can about it.

The Ford hydroboost uses an accumulator that 'stores' enough pressure to give you 2-3 brake assisted stops in the event you lose pressure due to a broken belt or loss of fluid. The amount of pressure assist is usually rated like 75% the first stop, 40% the second stop..etc. The Turn1 power steering pump you are referring to is not necessary for the conversion, in particular on a street car. For a track car you may end up boiling the power steering fluid though.

As for the a/c, just custom lines from the Porsche system to the GM compressor. Then figuring out how you want to wire it.. either retain the Porsche a/c circuit and run it 'standalone', or allow the PCM to control the a/c.

Check out the 944Hybrids forum, tons of information is on there. The search function isnt too great on the forum, so use google to look things up.

Thanks I had a hard time finding the current swap forum (not sure if I ever did) and had not really felt like the info was well laid out where I ended up.

As regards the PS pump, it seems like it'd be possible to just adjust the GM pump to lower the working pressure if one knew what springs or shims to use. How does the GM pressure compare to the stock 944 pump output? Higher pressure might be rough on the rack and the 944 steering is already overboosted and grocery getter-ish (IMO.)

Just get the Turn 1 pump and call it a day if you want to track the car. If not, the stock F body pump is fine on the street.

Others above have answered the other questions. I'm running the Turn 1 pump, Ford hydroboost and AC. Drop me a note if you want to take a close look at my car.
