Default Explosion sound!

After 4 months of storage I finally take the little car out of the garage. Everything seems fine until after I drove about 20 miles... When I release the clutch first gear infront of the traffic from dead stop, I heard a loud explosion and the whole car jump. Its kind of like forcing the gear without the clutch, except its x10 times more violent. However, after that, everything seems fine. The car operate normally. Anyone has similar experience?

Well,, if you still have a Rubber Center Clutch; it pretty likely is now cracked, and will get worse until it is very tough to shift...

When my Rubber Center went - sometimes shifting was fine, and others times it was almost impossible... You can easily check it by grabbing the Torque Tube thru the inspection hole at the front of the Transmission and trying to rotate it... and back and forth movement basically guarantees broke rubber clutch

I checked it last night, no movement what so ever... There are no rubber pieces from the inspection hole, and it shift like nothing had happen before.

Would it be something else?

Were the rear wheels off the ground, and e-brake off when you checked? (or trans in neutral) Are the CV bolts tight?

It is a 84 NA 5 speed. 95k...

Every service is up-to-date 5k ago but its still running original clutch.

Rear wheel was both on the ground (it was in the traffic) and ebrake is not engaged.

Don't think the CV bolt were loose, I can check tonight.

I meant, when you tried to rotate the TT coupling was the trans able to spin. If it was in gear with the wheels on the ground, it ain't going to spin no matter what. Leave it in neutral.

Sounds like clutch or a brake pad or ebrake shoe was locked and suddenly let loose. I'd look at the clutch, though.

I would have to bet a stuck caliper let free..... If the clutch is good.
