LOL! Douche or not, if I correct spelling (you're, your, etc)...then speech is just as important.

My line: "Dude, come on. It's Porsch-eh. It's not called a Lambor gun nuh is it? No? Is it a Fer-ra-eye? No, it's Fer-rar-ree. Wouldn't you be pissed if I always said YOUR last name wrong? lol!

Usually they laugh and say I had no idea. To which, (and to make it as un-douchy as possible), I say if you ever call the dealership, and they answer, "Porsch". I owe you a beer or three. lol!

And for the record, I had the pleasure of meeting some German girls over the summer. First thing I asked, "What is the most famous car make in your country?" Answer, "Pour-cheh" And they really say the 'eh' part super light. Almost like a 'cha' but faint. It was a trip.

Of course, she was gorgeous and had to ask why I didn't have a 911, lol! Apparently, that's how she saw Porsche when she closed her eyes, lol!

I used to have this argument with a co-worker who claimed his grandfather met Dr. P years back and stated that there is no "uh" as evidenced by the way Dr. P pronounced it.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me. I know what I drive.

I say Porscha but all my friends say Porsh. Either way, I don't really care and stopped correcting people a week after I got my 944, it's just not worth it, cause yes, no one cares, haha. Funny thread though. I have thought about getting a personalized license plate "PORSH-UH" cause it seems all the good ones are taken in VA, but I think it's too borderline douche, I don't know, haha.

I was under the impression the correct way is por sha not porsh a/eh/uh, but I have always said porsh and am not about to change just because I now own one. One of my co-workers was saying how much money I must have to buy a Porsche, and I said why it only cost 25 K... I asked what did your cost and he said about 25k. Difference is his car is now worth about 10K at best, but costs nothing to maintain, and where as mine will probably always keep me poor because even when nothing is wrong with it, I can work out ways to spend money on it

I get those "How much money do you make???" comments all the time, too. I'm a high school teacher so when they see that I have a Porsche and a Miata and my wife drives a BMW they all start wondering where I am getting this money from. They don't realize that the purchase price for all three of these cars combined would buy a not-too-fancy Honda Civic (which no one would comment on).

They know me well enough that they should also know better...

well its not "Porsch-eh" up here. Our eh is used more like "how's it goin eh?" Pronounced as a long A.

Sorry I couldn't resist the chance to play on the slang, though I do say Porsch. My latin american friends say "porch"

Calling a Porsche a "porsh" is like calling a Ferrari a "furry".

Porsche and Neanderthal: Pronouncing German Words in English

Complete with MP3 audio file demonstration 8)

we don't actually have a good phonetic representation of the last syllable in English. It's not "eh" and it's not "uh". It's probably best pronounced using the "schwa", or upside-down e, as in /ə/ , which is somewhere between "uh" and "eh". Unless your Canadian, in which case "eh" is pronounced like a long "a".

Meh!

Or is that Məh!

Talking

There is a great point in this link that "Porsche" is a proper family name and should be pronounced the way the family pronounces it. No matter what language or interpretation you have of it.

Just seems like basic proper etiquette to do so. Everything else is kind of a lazy form of disrespect.

Everytime I meet someone with a unique name I take the time to learn to pronounce it properly. This shows the proper level of interest and respect for them. Anything less would show that either I don't care about them or that I'm not capable of doing it right.

Which is my impression of people that say "Porch".

It's not about some type of brand arrogance.

They say "you own a Miata AND you have a wife?! I thought that was like get a cabriolet with automatic transmission."

Actually those little spec Miata guys give me hell on track days.
