I saw a thread before about this but i can't find it >.<

I also found some things won't fit either. I wired my radar detector direct to a fuse that is active when key is on. Turn car on and detector comes on.

Another option is to have say a three plug wired to the car and then place the receptacle box in the glove box. Thinking this will be my next step so I am not limited to one plug on the dash anyway.

You need to order the "Type B" adapter from Garmin or buy a universal Type B from Radio Shack. All European cars use Type B, Volvo, BMW, Audi, etc. Domestic use Type A.

Details:

12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size A
Receptacle inside diameter: 20.93 - 21.01 mm (median 20.97 mm)
Plug body diameter: 20.73 - 20.88 mm (median 20.805 mm)
Most often used in American automobiles.

12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size B
Receptacle inside diameter: 21.41 - 21.51 mm (median 21.455 mm)
Plug body diameter: 21.13 - 21.33 mm (median 21.18 mm)
Most often used in European automobiles, and sometimes as a second socket in American automobiles expressly for DC power connections.

I have the same problem with my farming. I normally cheat and use a folded fuel receipt to wedge it in place. Not the most elegant solution but it works

Try an find an aftermarket cigarette lighter that will stay put; the older Euro 12V sockets are just a tad bigger than what's available unless you go to a Pic N' Pull and look for older VW's. It's good to know there's an adapter though...good info.

i use a shallow belkin ipod charger that sits flush with the dash when its plugged in, it outputs to a usb port so i bet it would power your garmin. I got it at best buy.
