Default Finally finished the RMS replacement nightmare

Tonight I finally finished the rear main seal replacement project. Of course had to pull the exhaust system, transaxle, bell housing, clutch, flywheel and finally, the RMS. While it was apart cleaned all the grease and dirt off the transaxle, new seals in the output shafts, new clutch/pp/pilot bearing, clutch fork bearings, new exhaust bolts (old ones had to be cut off), stainless brake lines and new Super Blue brake fluid and new rubber shift lever boot. Everything works like new and with replacing the old fluid with Redline MT-90, it should be really smooth. Also found the little O rings in the oil pressure relief valve were leaking. It's been a big, frustrating at times, job and all my old levi's have gone to a hazardous waste dump.

Way to go. That sounds like a lot of work, but you'll get a lot in return!

Right up until you put it all together, only to find it is still leaking....

Good job.

I feel your pain! Mine was a leaker but not even a quart between changes, so I lived with it for almost a year. Hard to love a leaker! Congrats on finishing!

I finally got it all done and back on it's wheels. I ran the motor and tested the clutch and brake systems, and so far not one leak (hope that doesn't jinx me). I'll be out tonight to give it a road test and then let it sit overnight (that's when the leaks show up). Gave my wife's Boxster a real bath, since it was outside all this time, and now they're both back in the garage. I do hope all the repairs take and I can move on to re-sealing the rear hatch.
