Urethane early style mounts?
Noticed the thread today regarding the urethane fill on the later-style, single mount.
I currently have my transmission out of the car for other reasons. The original two mounts for my '84 look alright (no separation, fairly stiff yet), but I have nothing to compare them to. There is some information on the board regarding urethane in early style mounts, but really no consensus.
Can anyone recommend either way for the early style mounts? I'm leaning towards not doing it since the mounts are still in relatively good shape.
Thanks in advance.

I did this on my old 924S. I did it instead of buying new mounts. I had less wheel hop afterwards. I just used windshield urethane. Make sure to get a good caulk gun as I broke 2 of them trying to fill my early style tranny mounts.

Can you define wheel hop? I assume you mean something related to traction with regards to launches, burnouts etc.
Will filling the mounts do anything to help shifting/clutch engagement, etc?
Thanks.

see no reason to - the early mounts are pretty stout and solid, i dont think they'd ever need to be replaced. if they do xschop sells billet AL ones.
the late style mount needs poly stiffening because it is a POS

That's kind of what I gathered from previous posts too.

I had the super blue mounts from pelican on my 924s and they really tightened things up. I really liked them compared to my old stockers, it did launch better as it felt like i was losing less power to the driveline flopping around. The only downside is that i was having problems with the axle bolts backing off after a week of normal driving. I solved that with the stage 8 locking axle bolts.

The main reason to mod the late 944 single mount with urethane is to stiffen it in order to reduce the side-to-side swaying of the tranny in corners. This swaying or shifting can not only upset the balance of the car and affect handling, but also it tends to stress CV joints.
The early mount(s) don't let the tranny sway because there are 2 of them. FAR superior. One of the few golden nuggets of the early 944 (maybe 924 - I don't know). And they last an eternity.

The early style gearbox mounts use 2 mounts rather than 1 and not really subject to the same movement at each mount. Early mounts use better geometry and load shared by two mounts.
