Default Radiator question and WTB 944 radiator

Hi,
We have a '79 924 that we run for Lemons.
Our radiator is clogged, so we redid the mounting to use our spare (944 radiator)
It leaks.... so we have a 944 turbo sitting around and I'm wondering if the radiator from that will work (that freakin thing will probably leak as well...)
So - anyone put a 944T radiator in an early 924?
Also - even if that does work - we'll be in need of a spare - 924 or 944
Please let me know if you have one
-Mike

You're so much better off getting a new radiator, particularly for a race car. If you install the used radiator chances are it'll be gummed up and cause you problems on the track.

Its LeMons, $500 limit still? I love that series.

Ingenuity is king, even if the turbo radiator doesn't quite fit you can make it fit in a LeMons car with a few home-made brackets. Reverse flush, fit, bleed and go racing. Have fun!

You have to stick to $500 even on critical maintenance items? With a used radiator you may not finish the race...

Can you only spend $500 period on the car after purchase?

If you don't mind going custom, check out radiator CU837 (1985 VW Golf 1.8l) from Autozone, should be about $100 brand new. Depth is the same, width is 1/4" smaller and height is 1/2" larger, only real catch are in the inlets and outlets, they are .5" smaller in diameter than a 944 radiator. If memory serves me correct, the inlet and outlets are in the same locations.

Don't know if it helps, but worth a shot for a cheap brand new radiator.

My local autozone stocks the CU837, so yours might too so you can take a look at it before you buy it and more important full refund upon returning it.

write it up as a safety item:

without a working radiator, the engine would blow up, potentially release slippery water and oil onto the track surface, catch on fire, and cause a hazard to the driver and other competitors.

944 turbo lower braket is different because the rad. is taller- get a new radiator and dont write it on your budget.
