Default Electrical problem

I'm hoping you guys can give ideas on what to look for with my electrical problem. The cars starts every time but sometimes the windows, lights ,heater fan, radiator fans don't seem to work, in those cases I turn the car off, set the key in position 1 and then everything goes back on but I'm afraid the car might overheat if the radiator fans don't come on, also the dome light and trunk lights need to be completely turned of otherwise they drain the battery.Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Leonel

sure thing you need a fan relay and an ignition switch....

but i haven't a clue about the rest of what you have going on. 944s and their electrical gremlins are like dog**** and flies.

what year is this car ?

I'm thinking the ignition switch (electrical part) might be faulty. It's easy to replace and could save a lot of trouble shooting. It would also be good to let us know what car and year you're referring to as the electrical system changes over the year so one schematic doesn't cover '83 to '90.

I'm assuming the electrical system is similar to an 86 here, but I suspect it's relay 'X' (G14). It's designed to be closed at ignition switch positions R and 1, but open at 2 (start). It does this so that the starter will have more juice available to crank the engine. If it doesn't close properly (sticking open) then that could cause something like this. Try switching it with the horn relay (G13) and see if that happens to fix it. If not, chech for battery voltage at pin 86 of 'relay X' when the key is in position 1, and when it is running. If it's not there both times, it's almost certainly your ignition switch.

There is a relay that turns off windows, lights, fans etc, when starting the car...if it goes bad, those items behave badly. I can't remember the exact relay, but mine was cooked. Badly.
Search for a thread on weird electrical problem.. and the details are there.

Yep, that's 'Relay X', G14. If it's malfunctioning or isn't getting the proper signal from the ignition switch it will screw with everything on the circuit.

All the instructions on how to replace the switch are for the older models, including the one on Clark's Garage, can anyway guide to the right site foe the older models with the oval dash?
Wish I knew how to post pictures here

I've replaced two ignition switches on later 944's. Good luck! The best advise I have is remove the drivers seat and lose 30 pounds...it's very tight under there.
