Talking

You can leave them as is "polish center/lips/black accent with polish center cap" as seen on this 83.Or with "black center/polish lips & painted center cap" as seen on my ex 944.

Those are what are know as "Fuchs" wheels. Alway plural. The came out standard on the 911S when it debuted in the 60's and they were fitted to a lot of 911's from the factory through 1989. They are forged aluminum and are pretty much the lightest wheels Porsche supplied except for some magnesium wheels such as the "Gasburners" and the magnesium phonedials for the turbo cup cars. In the 83-86 NA production they were a option in 7J15 front with 8J15 rear. They were also an option on the 86 951 in 7J16 and 8J16. The NA versions are worth between $450 and $900 per set depending on condition and tires. They are painted black over anodized aluminum. To refinish them most people use Aircraft paint stripper and oven cleaner then repint them in a black and clearcoat to suit their tastes.

And the most expensive classic use wheels to buy, that is if you can find a decent set. Can't compare them with phone dial or cookies cutter for look on a 944.

The base model 911 had steel wheels standard through 1974. After that it was replaced with cookie cutters through 1983. Fuchs were standard in 1984 but then became optional for 85 and 86. I think 15in fuchs were standard in 87 and 88 with 16in becoming standard in 89.

Question

They must have been an option in 83,got the car with only a little over 3K miles on it & it had car 7.5 x 16 all around. The wheels your seeing in the pics are the one the car came with, later on can't remember excatly when, I got the lips re-polish & repainted the center myself & polish the lugs nuts. The tires at the time were Pirelli P7 205-55-16 " all around.Only later on when they were done did I went with 225-50-16" in the rear.
