it is obvious to me Ernie that you have never taken the side window trim apart before, because once you remove the rubber trim that is different (that changed in 85.5) the aluminum trim that goes around the window is the exact same part on the early cars it is aluminum in its unfinished state, the later cars starting with the 82 on 924 944 924S 951 cars all had this trim painted satin black!!!!

Why would you want to move down from the finest-handling car Porsche ever made? Sure, the 911 is iconic and beautiful, but they're twitchy as hell. Plus: they're the embodiment of the old saw about the difference between a porcupine and a Porsche (the porcupine's ***** is on the outside). How many bad guys/******** in the movies drive 944s?
I used to have 911 envy, I almost bought one four different times. But, I find that desire gone. If one fell into my lap I'd probably hang onto it, but I don't think I'll ever actively seek one out. The next P-Car in my house will probably be either a Cayman, a Panamera or a Cajun, depending on when it arrives and who's driving the purchase (my wife or me).

Have both, prefer driving the 944, but the Carrera is no slouch in the handling department.
As to the chrome thing it's a bit too old school for our cars imo. Maybe in the 70's but since the 80's most car manufacturers have been color-coding their previously chromed trim.
If you do go that route then polish rather than chrome (mentioned earlier). The chrome would just crack as soon as you bend the tabs that fit the trim.

I'll try to find a nice high resolution picture of a black 951 and do it right in photoshop to see what it would look like.

Good point. I forget that the last 911 I drove was a late 80s model. I got all excited when I posted and forgot that Porsche has made a lot of progress in recent years.

I've replaced the bumper with a gtracing fiberglass bumper, front clear lens, side orange lens delete, added a front splitter....

I would say: Conclusion, it looks cool, but with the 911 mirrors. But getting them, welding the flag mirror holes, bondo, paint and install.... iiiiiish. to big of a job.
I stick with what I have for now : )

Just the trim around the side glass, not the b-pillar or the top hatch trim and black mirrors & dirt handles pls. Oh, and clear sidemarkers, they look good in a black car.
Also, those photoshoped Fuchs are bugging me, you staggered them bigger at the front.
