If you get the spacing spot on you should be able to squeeze the 11s back there, but you are most likely going to need custom spacers to make it work because the 11s would not be leaving much room for error.

For reference, we list 17 x 7.5 front at about 25et, 17 x 9 rears at about 15. If you have adapters made, they are going to have to be HUGE to get that to work. Not recommended.

You may want to switch to late offset rear suspension if you want to use those wheels.

Considering I'm willing to use spacers...

I already own a set of 1" spacers. This is ~25mm... Meaning it brings the 63mm down to 38mm. That means they'll sit in an extra 15mm from normal. That's not a large enough spacer.

If I use the 1 inch spacers in the front, it makes the 45mm like 20mm offset. Is the 3mm extra enough to mess things up in front?

Is my concept of wheel offsets completely whack?

Is it correct that ideal spacers for the wheels would be 22 mm in front and 40 mm rear? That's larger than 1.5 inch spacers in the rear... Has this been done before? Is it dangerous or anything?

Correct. If you're looking for rims that fit, I have the Italian turbo twist in early offset I would sell. Fit's with no spacers.

HICKS funny you mention that because those are wheels I've been trying to keep my eye out for... It all depends on cost though.

My brother just gave me a little lesson on wheel offset.

My wheels are 7" wide, 23 mm offset. So that means ~2.5" in front of the hub and 4.5" behind.

The suspension has room for an extra 2.5" inwards before it rubs. Meaning it can accommodate 7 inches behind the hub.

The wheels I'm looking at are 63mm offset and 11" wide, meaning ~3" in front, 8" behind the hub. This is 1" too much behind, so I will need a 1" spacer, probably a little more, to give it some room and fill out the fenders.

Hey Keith that’s a side shot of my car, late offset, ’89 with factory rolled quarters which you will also need to do to fit the 11” rears. Myself and others have slight rubbing on the inner rear wheel well when suspension is compressed, (need to work it with a mallet).

Check this thread, Post pics of your 944 wheels here., post #51 for an '86 N/A photo.

I don’t believe these will work with the early N/A setup, but the 968 front control arm caster blocks are recommended when using an 18” wheel… Caster Block - updated.
