Default Ebay CF dash trim on sale

I had seen this trim on a few interior pics, but had no idea how it was made(it was so precisely cut). I have been playing with carbon fibre(CF) for years and I just couldn't work it out, but how it's made is explained on the site, and I finally found the source. Anyway I just ordered a set, as they are 31% off ATM. I have no affiliation with the seller but I do think it's a great product so thought I'd share. I will post pics when I get mine fitted

I wish it was complete replacement parts instead of the stickers. I've got some broken pieces that would look great in cf.

I did an overlay of real Carbon fibre on my gear shift surround, but being plastic, you have trouble getting a good bond using normal resins. Using the proper polyesters for true CF would probably bond better but expense would go up too. To make replacement parts would require making moulds, and probably using vacuum bagging, which would also add to complexity of manufacturing, again adding to cost. There is also the issue of making it so switches click in, as they do in the OEM plastic.

It really would be easier to make a whole new custom dash out of FG and do a CF overlay than it would to make up the parts in CF, although once you had parts perfected, you could churn them out in bulk. They still wouldn't be cheap due to material costs.

Maybe when I get my 2nd 944, a custom dash may be on the cards, but there is no way I am messing with this ones uncracked dash I am thinking of doing some gauge pods on the A pillar, as no one makes RHD versions, and this will def get the CF treatment

You could try your hand at painting them. Here's a tutorial:

I can't stand the bubbly look of those stick-on trim accents.

You would have to have such confidence in your ride to stick that stuff all over the trim. I have owned my car for about 5 months and I have had all the plastic bits off twice already to fix things, change bulbs, wire things... it does look nice, but until someone REPLACES the trim bits not just stick things on, I'll pass.

+1. I test drove a 951 with that kit..I thought it looked cheap. Didn't match the 80's aesthetic..

No it's not, my car is a 968 with a 968 CS steering wheel.Has mention it's a NERO MOMO & they also have the pedals & shifter **** matching it. www.momouso.com/.../nerosteering-wheel.htm Scroll down click on "Momo Nero".Lol here is mine & there no way those E-Bay trims are going in that interior.

imo the only thing that spoils that interior is the cheap looking and ricey plastic trim. sometimes less really is more!

Agree with you I don't like those aftermarket trims more than you do,but it's a question of taste & some peoples do like them so I do respect their taste. That is why I post that pic,at least this one look a little better than the carbone fiber or wood finish look alike.
