I had koni yellows at stock height on stock springs, stock 15" wheels, stock front only sway bar and the ride was stiff and I felt all bumps on my 1984 944. Adjusted the koni's to full soft and it was still a little to jarring for highway driving, it was just annoying.

I had a rear shock spring a leak and while koni was repairing/replacing it I tried Gabriel Ultra from autozone because they are dirt cheap. Now these are not a performance shock by any means but they transformed the 944 into a highway cruiser, think almost land yacht bouncy. There was more body roll but I upgraded to a front turbo sway bar and added a rear sway bar and now the car handles great and does not loosen my fillings on every control joint on the highway.

Front strut cartridge ($35.99) part number G44850, rear shock ($27.99) part number 69616. For a car just pounding away miles on the highway I do not think you can go wrong, especially for the price. And if you don't like it, you're out barely $130 and an afternoon, if you do the work yourself.

New hatch pins from Rennbay will cut down on those rattles significantly. Those made such a difference in my car I was shocked.

The ride is a lot easier to enjoy when it doesn't make all that racket back there.

Very interesting...may look into those. Car is mostly driven on highway, but due to the nature of traffic around here it is put on streets as soon as rush hour hits.

Got a set of those a few months ago, they for sure made a difference. Now my sunroof seems to be wiggling (I need a new panel seal...really hard to justify blowing $120 on an o-ring though) and who knows what else is loose back there...wish I could ditch the spare tire/tool set without the certainty that I'd immediately blow a tire due to karma.

I currently have kyb's in the rear of my car since I got it. Maybe it's just cause I'm young but I feel like my car rides quite comfortably... Just ordered kyb's for the front but I don't believe you guys, I think I'll be perfectly happy with them

bigger wheels, but not with low profile tires.
i started with 14" 924 wheels, then moved up to 15" 944 wheels and now i use 17" wheels. smaller wheels will fit in most holes and denivelations, bigger wheels will just "fly over"

i would try some D90 with some 205/55/16 rubber...oh and keep the pressure at maximum 2 bars...i drive my MK3 golf with KW super sport suspension daily and its confortable (1.8bar pressure)

the biggest thing that effects ride comfort is having matched valving and spring rates, which is critical for a smooth ride.

I put KYBs on the rear of mine when I bought it, so I didn't know how bad they were, until I replaced with Koni's last year. The squat under acceleration was bad with the KYBs, but when I removed them I couldn't compress the bastards. I still haven't figured that out, and don't really care to.

Hallelujah!

I recently had the opportunity to use a shock dyno for a morning and ran a few tests with the various spring rates and dampers I had accumulated.

Don't fit Konis to stock springs, the valving is all wrong. Stick to factory Sachs/Boge and you will be very happy. Most people who fit Konis on less than 250# front springs end up setting them at their lowest setting and that sort of defeats the point.

IMO best "comfort" setting is the factory stock set-up, it was a compromise between a sporty ride and a comfortable ride. Stock wheels, stock tires, stock suspension. If anything play with your sways to control the roll and dial out some of the understeer, but that's about it.

From what I Understand, the problem with the KYB's is longevity, People have had them fail prematurely.

Spencer will give it a shot for you.Leave strut insert/springs/rear shock & front sway bar as is,since your car is already well sort out with Boge/Sach & all new rubber bushings.Get some 7x16 wheels front 8X16 rear mount some Falken 452 205-55 ZR 16 frt 225-50-ZR 16 rear tires inflated cold front (29psi) rear (32psi),& enjoye your new ride.Btw there is nothing wrong with a quality 16" Fuch repro & it will give your car the rigth look.

Ernie. can't get tires for 16" wheels anymore.

but, make the move to 18s and you have a trillion bargain tire options opening up.

click these links here and have your mind blown.

the only issue with ride quality arises when you run a 30 aspect ratio.

She's running 15" wheels and I don't know of any 14" wheels she can use that'll fix this particular issue.
