I have "Cup II" wheels on my '87 S. I have two sets so I can run square tire sizes, the 17x7s with 225-series tires fit fine (of course), and so do 17x9s with 255/40/17 tires. At stock ride height, at least. I haven't tried the wide tires since I've lowered the car.

On my 1988 NA I have 17" Sport Classics from a 996. They have a small spacer in the front. For tires size I have 225/45 in the front and 255/40 I'm the rear.
