I now have one and have been using it for the first time today (changing CV joints and some other stuff). It's super handy! It's going to be so nice to put everything back together when everything's clean!
(I'll take some pics later...)

Can you send me your contact info. Have a buddy in Hyde Park with a 88 silver rose with 41K. He needs someone local that knows 944 turbos. We grew up together in Binghamton, NY. Now I'm in the south, and he waits for me to visit when something goes wrong or he tows it upstate to be fixed.

I have been using trisodium Phosphate in a small (Harbor Freight) parts cleaner to de-funk power steering pumps lately. It seems to work extremely well and since it is dissolved in water it drys without any oily residue.
You can find it at Lowes in the paint section. Comes in a milk carton.

We built a custom hot 111 tank 30 year ago (when it was still easy to get and cleaning tanks were not easy to get). Still use it today with the current EPA approved junk solution… sure do miss 111.

What is the best solvent to use these days? Is mineral spirits an option?
I've got a parts washer that a friend gave me up in the attic... sure would have been nice to have that in operation when I tore down my car. Since that project, I've been cleaning up the garage and may actually have space to set up the parts washer soon.

Here's what my parts washer looks like - it's a 30 or 40 gallon model, I believe. I'm using a water-based solvent that I ordered from McMaster Carr, I'm not sure what exactly is in it, but it seems to work pretty well.
Like I said, in a few minutes I had all of the CV joint hardware cleaned up, then I rinsed it off with water.

That solvent looks good too - I don't think mineral spirits (which I'm pretty sure is what we used when I worked at a lawn mower shop when I was in high school) can make the "Flammability - 0" claim that yours can. I know that whatever I get needs to be safe since it'll be sitting in my attached garage. With a health rating of 1, I don't have to be too worried around my 3 year-old either.
