After some googling it looks like if you remove the door and basin you can put a small/med mcdonalds cup in there.

Looks like I'll fiddle with it when I get back to the US in a couple of weeks. Gotta get out of russia and appease the girlfriend in Germany. Distractions distractions...

Good work. I turned my ash tray In 2 an iPhone holder about 3 years ago. Need 2 change it 2 a 4 now. Basically cut the ashtray 2 the lip. And then guled the tray from the packaging your phone comes in. Could wrap the inner with leather or something if it not already black.

I put my drinks down the side off the seat between the hand brake and seat belt. Not had any issues

Im thinking of just replacing the ashtray with a leather pouch or something, and double side tape it to the edge.
