(D*mn, why are all those words in Dutch not just the same as english, what are the proper english words for these tools)

A good low-profile floor jack and some sturdy jackstands are worth their weight in whatever currency you care to use.

The #1 thing I can say that's critical is good lighting. If you can install extra florescent lighting it's a godsend. Also, Wal-Mart sells 90 lumen LED flashlights for about $15 that are AWESOME. Basically indestructible and they run on AAA batteries.

Also, while not critical, the help of some good RL friends goes a LONG way towards enjoyment (Thanks JoKa, Dougs951 and ModdedEverything951S!!!)

Hey no one mentioned this yet, but a GOOD fire extinguisher. Couple of small ones could save yours and your families lives.

+1 on the good jack and stands. No more dinky trolly jacks for me. What a difference when you don't have to spend an hour just to jack the car up!!

+1 on a simple air compressor with an impact gun.

+1 on a good vice too!

+1 on lighting. Paint the walls and ceiling too if you can. Reflected light helps too!

A hang point for your overalls
A roll or seven of duct tape

Also, a trolley for scooting around on your back under the car is a lifesaver. Much more comfortable for those extended periods you will be spending under cars.

Already have the jack stands, jack, impact wrench etc.

I did get some flourescent overhead lights from homedepot. I have them in the other garage as well. They are REALLY nice. And only $20 per ballast to boot.

And I painted it white a month ago

Go to www.garagejournal.com , you'll find tons of stuff to do. If you want to heat the garage, you should insulate it too. Lowes has r12 for like $9 for 40 square feet. Also, a Hazet Assistent is the best thing to happen to my garage. Hard to find used, but I use it all the time. AND it's German!

1.) Get a good and low profile jack and a lift fitting for the car. How much is a good jack - well it is not at Sears unless it says Pro on it and it wont go under the car.

2.) A lift is better. Everything on these cars went in from underneath including the hood.

3.) Get a Wilton vice.

4.) Ingersol air compressor and bigger than you think and at least a Ingersol 1/2 inch and maybe some others too. With a big assortment of sockets say about 6 mm to 36 mm. Think I am kidding. You could go buy a nice new Porsche if you sold all the tools I have. And then there are some I am still getting.

5.) And while you are at it a lift for the bike. I did not get one until I had owned about 40 bikes. Nice !

6.) Did I say some big strong benches. When I buillt this house and shop I built them where you could set a Porsche on them and not wince.

7.) I have light blue on the benches, light-ish creamy yellow walls and light grey concrete and a whole damn ceiling full of double floureescents that are the shop type long bulbs with the cold start. And I always need more light.

8.) Tool boxes.

9.) Roll around cart.

10.) Battery charger and a battery boost jump box.

11.) Another big bench for reloading . If you are like me.

12.) More stuff. Drill press. Parts washer. Torch. Stick Welder unless you are a real welder.

That will only get you started. But it will be a good start.

I believe you can still get the federal tax credit on insulation (energy savings) through 2011 (2.5 more weeks). If you can afford it, I recommend it (especially if you itemize your deductions).

It will keep you cozier in the winter and cooler in the summer. And it does really save energy, too!
