I'm looking for one, possibly two RX7 oil coolers. Unfortunately the RX7 forum won't let me post a WTB thread unless I have made 10 posts. I simply can't think of 10 things to post about in there that would be serious enough to pass the mods, so I thought I'd ask if anyone in here had access and could post a WTB for me?

Or if anyone has some rx7 coolers lying about they could just sell them to me

I might be able to find one at the junkyard for you in good shape.

An alternative would be to look around your area for late 70s/early 1980s Mercedes 300D. They have an oil cooler a little bit smaller than the RX7 but still do a good job. I have one on my car and it is amazing at the temperature difference from one end to another.

Here is a thread I had before where I sold one with pictures for your reference. I can go get 2 or 3 of these at the boneyard for sure, I saw them on Wednesday.

Thats and old 911 trick (RX-7 oil cooler) and I actually have an old 911 that needs a cooler. I have wondered if a 944T oil cooler would work instead, maybe mounted in the 911s rear wheel well. Just some mindless winter, too-cold-to-work-in-the-garage thinking...;] Bruce

I wouldn't bother with a 951 cooler unless you're on a serious budget and/or have one lying around. Too small to be really effective, especially in a place like the rear wheel well. Guys with stock 951s find that the stock cooler is barely up to the task on a track, and those cars have radiators...putting it on a 911 where air and oil temp are the life and death of the engine, I'd go for as big a cooler as I can get...

I have been looking locally for months, also on the local Mazda forum. Not many RX7s were sold over here, so they are hard to find. The junk yards in my area are gone. Perhaps people make too much money to bother with old parts....if so I am ashamed.

I have seen pics of the Merc ones, but I've had no luck finding them either. I really would prefer the RX7 if I can get one though. I'm in no rush so I don't mind waiting until you need a trip to the yard yourself.

What year RX7 parts are you looking for? If it is a 3rd gen car (93-95) there is a Rennlist member named Fritz Flynn that will have it (he's the RX7 parts guru)...... You might try contacting him anyway as he probably can put you in touch with a source for those parts.

I'm not sure to be honest. I thought I would just have to take whatever I can get and make it fit.
Is one generation considered better for installation/adaptation into a 951?

I just bought a used RX7 one on ebay for $35. I'm going to use it for a tranny cooler.

Why not an Earl's oil cooler? Lots of custom sizes to choose from, and easy Aeroquip installations. I wouldn't mess with used oil coolers from other makes. Sounds like too much of a compromise.

That's the price I expect to pay. I searched ebay the other day. Cheapest was above $100+ int. shipping. Could it be that I'm not seeing the best deals because the sellers don't offer int. shipping?

EDIT: Just did another search. Seems like a few have been put up for sale since my last visit, but few offer int. shipping.

its not like an oil cooler is a wear part, aside from possible damage from birds and rocks and/or engine bits on the inside. i feel confident of my merc cooler as the diesel engine it comes off of is known to be good for over 800,000 miles on original parts...

If you have a 'normal' water/oil cooler, how do you block it off to add an external? I would love to toss the water/oil for a nice air-cooled one. Is it an easy swap or do you need to get creative?
