Default headlight question

well i just got my first porsche, its a 86+ 944 turbo with 121k and i absolutely love it! im trying to fix some little things with it so i might be posting some questions here and there because ive had 16 hondas and now this my first porsche so im not a noob to cars just to the uniqueness of the porsches.

on to my question- so when i first got it the headlights wouldnt go up and down, they come on and stay on just no movement. Today i went out to check if the motor and relay were good since the elay cover is missing and i read that causes problems with water getting in (ordering a new one off of here along with some other parts to keep the site going!!) so i found out that when i turn the headlights on the motor spins the bolt that comes out of it freely, like its not tight enough on the arm or needs a bushing? i dont wanna tighten it and break something before i asked some questions. also another weird thing it that it turns the same direction when i turn them on and off is this correct? thanks for any help, i can post a video if nescessary

Welcome to the club. The answer to your questions can be found at Clark' garage.com. The shop manual goes from A - Z, so look under "H" for headlights. Read it all as it will tell most of the things for a DIY gent.

wow thanks for that site theres alot of helpful stuff there, but the headlight info doesnt solve my problem. i know the motor works and turns but its spinning that 13mm bolt that comes out of the motor to the connecting rod on the arm freely, like its not tight enough? but id dint wana just tighten it down and then ruin my motor and be out a couple hundered$$

It sounds like the arm isn't keyed to the shaft any more. I would take the motor out with the arm on, and see what's what. I think the shaft has flats that lock the arm in position, but I couldn't swear to it.
