Default Lost power to instrument cluster

Car: 1991 944 S2 cabriolet
Mileage: 86K

instrument cluster stopped working
no tachometer
no speedometer
no fuel or oil reading
no warning lights
everything stopped/out except (strangely) the red low charge light

I checked the fuse, that is not it

car starts and runs fine
all other electrical functions normal with no indication of low battery power

what could this be?
possibly related: replaced stereo, all is working fine there (no wires left disconnected or damaged)

I would start with disconecting what you had connected. I had a bad connection with my cluster causing the same issues but that was after I had the cluster out.

I would also try and locate the fuse that powers the cluster and work towards the cluster see if you can locate the fault.

Thanks Plumbum, I did exactly that and found the problem. The fuse was not making good contact with socket. I was in all the way but I had removed a brass tab that appeared to be used for pulling the fuse out and that space was enough to block contact. I couldn't bend the contacts inside the fuse receptacle so I just soldered somebulges on the fuse tab itself.

i had that on my old turbo- taillights stopped working after removing a tab for a cellular phone. I twisted the tabs on the fuse alittle.
