I just hope other car forums don't find out what's going on here and make us into a laughing stock.

If you're dead-set on playing with phonies there are some pics where people painted the center of the wheel black and the outside "rim" silver, it looked pretty cool.

I could...but you wouldn't like it.

Bottom line is: Go for it. It doesn't matter and it's not hurting anyone. Why not.

Re: Cookie Cutters. I always thought they were a great looking wheel. Especially when the center was painted black or dark grey metallic and the outer rim polished. If they came in 17 inch wheels I would have opted for a set of them for my '87.

Are you totally hooked on a five-spoke look? If not, a set of Cayenne 17s can be had for a song. I think they need a spacer to fit properly, but the whole exercise would only set you back a few hundred. If you keep an eye on CL, you might be able to get them cheaper than that - and I'm talking with tires.

This was a really crazy idea I had while daydreaming in class about my 951. It was crazy enough to post it up here on rennlist, and it in fact created some controversy! The phonedials are, in my opinion, a poor design because the emphasis is on the circles rather than the spokes. I think the idea would work if was completed to professional spec, but otherwise it's going to look tacky and it will likely have a short life-span due to declining condition.

I think if something of premier quality was created, it would be a worthy and unique improvement:

Thanks for the input everybody...especially Butters944 who gave it a shot! In the long-term, it's a much better idea to get some wheels that will look incredible and will last. I will get some turbo twists someday. Just not yet. Not yet.
