Sunroof Delete Bodywork
How difficult is it to swap a non-sunroof skin onto a sunroof 944/968?
Anyone have experience and pictures? Interested in the proper donor car to use. I've heard that the 924 isn't a proper donor candidate.
Thanks in advance for any information.

I had a local fabrication shop weld in a steel panel.
Then the body shop used some fiberglass filler to make it smooth.
It for just a race car but i wanted the smooth top of a non sunroof car.

Swapping to non sunroof skin would be wiser than just block off original sunroof panel. Cars without sunroof have totally different design roof frame structure, which is lighter. It's a good thing when you can reduce weight from the highest point of your car.

seafeye, did that shop make that panel? How much did all that cost, if you don't mind sharing? I love sunroof delete, I want it more than anything else on my car!

the sunroof delete mods i've seen pics of they chop the roof off from a sunroof-delete car through the pillars and weld it onto the recipient car.
not sure why the 924 would be incompatible as suggested except that for late 944's the windscreen was flush mounted and on the 924's (and early 944's) it wasn't.

Believe it or not but the steel shop only charged me $60 for the roof panel to be cut and welded. Price included materials.
The body shop that painted the car added a bit to the price of the paint job. How much I don't remember but it wasn't much.
It may be a tad heavier than a stock non sunroof car but I doubt it will make a difference to me. The roll cage is a lot more significant up there.

For racing I guess, structural support and weight reduction. Since I don't race mine, I wouldn't seal up my sunroof if you paid me $500...

Sunroofs leak, make noise, break, the fiberglass panel's paint fades faster, it adds weight, the roof doesn't look as clean, and I never ever use my sunroof anyway. Hey, if you like the sunroof, then great! But I really wish my car didn't have one. Even on a nice day, if I were outside the car, I'd sit in the shade, so why would I take off the roof and sit in the sun? BTW I dislike dropping the top on convertibles too (and therefore I don't like convertibles) because of the sun and noise, so maybe I'm just crazy.
$60 is an epic deal!
I have a 924 sunroof delete roof that I wanted to adapt to my 968, I know it will take some fab because of the different windshield. I need to find a shop like the one that did that roof job for $60.
