Default Wow!!! (Rebuilt Engine)

I finally got my car back from the shops...long story.

I spun a rod bearing not too long ago. Decided to buy a rebuilt short block and have the engine replaced.

Holy crap. What a difference. The car moves...in all gears. Before the rebuild, the car was a total pig from a standing start, was listless and would not accelerate in 5th gear. It was no fun to drive.....

Now. It has power (as much as an N/A can have) and is peppy. Probably just as it was when new in '86.

I am very happy. Now I just need to fix the rear hatch. (separated at the frame)....

You don't want to know......
I purchased a rebuilt short block (not a whole motor), and had them use my cylinder head, cam tower, oil pan etc....they had the head machined, and replaced the exhaust valves.
the short block was the most expensive bit.
Labor was huge...all in, about 5k.

As for the thread title....wow! is all I can say right now. The car is completely different.

Have you considered a 2nd mortgage? That is, if you don't do the work yourself. I would set aside at least $3k to do a pretty basic rebuild, nothing special.

Some of the most reasonable pricing I've seen. Broadfoot builds a good motor also. His pricing is based on a "tired" but good motor...costs will skyrocket when stuff needs to be replaced, and machine work is done.
Also, the support systems like fuel injection, exhaust, etc. should be factored in. It's a good time to do motor mounts, steering rack, front bushings...these cars are painfully expensive anymore.
