Default late auto tensioner assembly question

putting together my 88 motor for the spec car and it was apart when i bought the motor. The motor has the studs but when you slide the tensioner onto the block it seems to hit the front of the oil pump (bolt) and is awful close to the water pump. Is this supposed to have spacers behind it? or did i put the wrong oil pump on and its different somehow.

No spacers, it should just slide on, What part is hitting the oil pump bolt? the body of the tensioner or the pulley? is the tensioner fully compressed? or fully extended? Does it have the same issue when you have a belt on it?

motor is out on the stand- no head or belts- the body appears to be hitting the pump- i'll get pics tomorrow.
