dunno what engine you're having, but if you blow 8 psi into the 3.0 and tune it well, you'll get more trhen a 100 extra. Eric Oz has the list. I'm racing the rotrex, utterly reliable, relative simple install, has its own oil circuit, so no tapping. I don't know how to tune the ecu though since mine runs on motec.

RedRose,

Just came across your thread and i brought back memories!!

My 86 N/A has been Supercharged, Turbo charged and now has an LS6, looking back I wonder why I didn't go the V8 path in the beginning.

I would have to say Supercharging is great if you have a fairly good motor and don't want tons of power, the problem is once you taste boost you always want more.

Other than the V8 my turbo setup was the best, I have an 86 so every thing just bolted on, I also ran a J&S Safeguard (Knock Retard) and a Mafterburner with Cobra 80mm MAF, I ran 10 PSI for 2 years and the car was very quick.

One of the issues with Turbp/Supercharging is the condition of your motor, if you have worn rings and old seals you could suffer from blowby and have all sorts of oil leaks. By the way, when I removed my motor to install the LS6 I found 1 broken ring probably caused by non boost friendly N/A rings.

In a nutshell, if you are going to spend money, do it right the first time otherwise the conversion will never end. If you have to pull your motor for freshening up, then you may start thinking about Turbo pistons and other engine mods to better handle boost. To be honest, if my N/A motor was sitting on an engine stand in my garage, I would probably look for a low miles Turbo motor and do a full turbo conversion.

Initially I ran 93, we then got 94 at ESSO gas stations, the J&S really save the day, I saw as much as 16PSI when tuning but the rings were the weak spot.

I need to pull the motor to fix a lower engine seal, so thinking about different options with adding/changing parts there.

Sounds like me late last year!!

While the motor is out I would check cylinders, rings and bearings. if you cylinders are in good you could install new rings, I believe Turbo rings are also used on N/A motors (stronger). One thing to bear in mind is that the SC gains are based on higher compression (9.5.1 N/A pistons), if you install low compression turbo pistons you won't get the same results with 8 PSI.

Depends on what you want. If you want 8 psi, stick with NA pistons. Research. Understand the processes behind superchargers, engine management systems, knock, etc. If you get the theory behind it than you can put it together, take data, evaluate, and make changes. It's not really a shopping list, bolt on affair.

IMO aftermarket pistons and rods. Lighter and you can choose how much compression you want

I think you can see from the other responses where this is going, if your think you'll be happy with 8 PSI (200-220hp) then stock pistons will work best.

I fully agree with GTSilver944's comments, understand what you want to achieve and set a budget. High performance motors are built to handle the power, conversion can put unnecessary stress on a motor that manifest in all sort of problems.

Right. I think 8 will be enough for me for now. I don't usually want that much extra power. The car is very strong as it is, just every once in a while I wish I had a little more power in reserve.

Edit....I think it was for an S2. Unless some of the parts are similar.....???
