The small wire on the starter should have 12 vdc with the key in the start position.

How about lights? Dash lights? Headlights?

If you have a voltmeter you should check battery. Batteries will completely die over time and need to be replaced.

Hell yea, what's up man! Glad your still playing around with the 944. Your battery will need atleast 12.5volts to turn the starter. You might try jumping it with another car.

Sounds like the solenoid on the starter. I was looking at the wiring diagram and two things I saw was the horn (with the key on) and the ignition switch. Could be the ignition switch or loose connector on the back, or the starter solenoid. The small wire under the car attaches to the solenoid and should show 12 v when the key is turned to the start position. If it does and the battery's healthy then I'd really suspect the solenoid. Check to see that the horn works with the key "on". If it does then you have 12 v to the ignition switch. Second, put a volt meter on the small stud on the starter and (make sure the car's in neutral ) have a friend turn the ignition switch to start. You should see 12 v. If you do and you don't hear the solenoid making a solid click, take the starter back to where you got it. By the way, when you installed the starter, did it seat solidly in it's mount and the bolts go in easily with finger tightening or did you have to use wrenches to tighten them from the start? My point is that if it wasn't seated correctly and you had to wrench the bolts in the starter may be installed a bit crooked which would jam the star gear and the solenoid. If you take the starter out put a 12 v source (battery) on the small lug and ground on the starter case. It should make a big click and spin the starter star gear (hang on to it,,,torque) if it's good.

Do you still have the old DME? You might consider that as a possibility. I'm not sure but those darn things seem to be responsible for many maladies. Good luck

Know how to use a multi-meter? If not, now is a good time to learn.

Does the battery have voltage? Does the starter have voltage? Does the fuse panel have voltage? Start figuring out what has and what has not got voltage - when you figure out the split between what's working and what isn't, you'll have the answer to your problem. It could be battery, starter, relays, DME, sensors, ignition switch, etc.

Well guys 4 months later and I still can't get it running, What if I buy a new dash/wiring harness and fuse box? and just changed I also changed the crank ref sensors, and my starter was getting 12v, and was getting spark, But when you turn key there isn't anything. NO fuel pump noise, NO spark, NO DME click, but you can still cross the starter. I just don't F'ing get it!!!!!!!

It's not something simple like the ignition switch?

Have you measured that 12vdc is on the small wire at the starter while the ignition key is in the start position ?????

Make sure your main + leads are clean and connected properly at the battery(and starter) same with the grounds at battery and chassis.

You can also isolate /test the starter by jumpering the large + lead on the starter motor to the solenoid terminal at least to determine that you have a good supply lead and ground to the chassis and starter motor. Sounds like you have a supply voltage or grounding problem.

Hey, I changed DME and starter does get 12 but for some reason it loses it when you turn the key, even with a new battery in the car. Do you think is like a ground to the DME or something like that? Plus when you do cross the starter there is no spark while the are is turning
