My 83 just didn't come with the central locking option.

I did pretty much the same thing 10 years ago. I think you'll find it an easy project. I always imagined I would hook up a factory switch to it but never did and have never missed it. The keyless entry alone makes it worthwhile.

I also thought I would wire the hatch release to it also but it's looking it'll be another 10 years before that's a high enough priority for me to look into.

I thought about hooking an actuator to the hatch cause i I don't have hatch release. But when I thought about it, whenever I hit the unlock on the key fob, the hatch would open lol. Might figure something out for it involving a simple switch along the actuator wire, so I could press a button in the cab, opening the hatch.

@86 951: no clue.

Installed the passenger side actuator (minus the rod to connect to the car's lock). Will continue to work through the night, post pictures later, after marching band rehearsal.

If you have central locking you can hook into that system for keyless entry.

Made some progress today.

Passenger side:

Those ventilation things on the edge are a PITA! Still can't get out the driver's side...

Lots of access room made it easy to work with...

Thought this pic of the door cable looked cool...

This is where I will mount the actuator rod to...

Messed up the second hole, should've been more careful...

First actuator = done. Just gotta cut/bend/connect the rod now.

Driver's door panel removed...

Was repaired by my dad and I using newspaper, wood glue, mesh... But we have new old ones to install now!

Also tried to re clean my window switches while I was at it... Ayeyeye... Broke one of them, and now the other 2 only move the windows down. Good thing I'm in the garage, because my windows will be down until i fix it...

Made lots of progress tonight.. Screwed in the drivers side actuator, wired up the passengers side. Next step, wire the drivers side, connect the actuators to the locks, find power + ground from somewhere on the fuse board to tap into, plug it all in, and go.

Will update with pictures asap.

Good job man, thanks for the write up. I didn't know it that was that easy, always figured it would be a lot worse. By the way, you can rebuild the window switches. Just remove the top of the switch, clean the contacts, and throw a little light bulb grease on the ball bearings in there and you're good to go. I've done it a couple times, pretty easy fix and a lot cheaper than buying new/used switches.

I know, we've rebuilt them a few times. But i broke one of the pieces. Actually I picked up all new ones for $15 each off rockauto. Aaaand the faces of them seem to come off a lot, like they're loose, but that's another story.

Haha at $30 it's such a cheap project anyway, thanks for the late offer!
