I was talking to a kid who wants to get a 944 Turbo and I called it a 951 and he tried to argue that the 951 was only a special edition 944 turbo.

Uh...water burner?

When was looking at my car before I bought it, I initiated contact via e-mail and told the guy "Nice 951 you have for sale."

He replied back with "My car isn't a 951, it's a 944 Turbo."

A kid in a parking lot approached me today as I pulled up and said "Hey I have the same car as you!" I said nice you have a 951? What year?" He looked puzzled for a second and said its an 87' Then he said "I put 20's on it!" I just laughed out loud and walked away...... 20's... nice.

I think anyone who knows the difference between a 993 and a 996 knows the difference between a 944 and a 951, outside of that I doubt it...

Just to confuse people even more Porsche decided in their wisdom to call the new 911 the 991. Also did you all know that the 944 was designated 945 and the 951 was 952 for all RHD models. aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhh!

I went to look at a 944 at a guy's house who also had 930 turbo and I called it a 911 and he said "no it's a 930"

I guess all of Porsche's weird number games is a good way to tell if someone is a real enthusiast or not.

I once told a guy in a parking lot, "that's a nice 996 you have." He looked at me funny and said "No, its a 911". It made me laugh.

Persoanlized plates may be tacky.

But my purpose to identify the car without having to paint PORCHE 944 TURBO 1986 Factory Code 951 across the hood or something.

I knew I guy here that had the BADDEST car I ever saw. It had a couple of plates on it that were truly irritating to other cars. But the car could back them up. I think it had a tube frame, it had a Vette body and at least more Hp than would ever be street legal today. Anywhere. A F 1 race car might not accelerate any faster. It might have given John Force a run through the 1/8 mile. When those two big 4 barrels opended up it would shove your eyes so deep in the socket you could barely see . He could put anything on the license plate because that was all you ever saw and only for a second.

But all that is not for me.

As Todd asked me when looking at a Panamera to order "Why dont all these damn cars have names ?" "German" was all I could say.
