Does Anyone Know 944 vs 951 But Us?
So I am considering a Texas personalized plate for my 1986 944 Turbo aka 951.
Folks have already hogged up most of the 944 related plates. So I was going to use the 951 designation.
I was showing a guy here and he said " Oh, do you have another P car too?" Oh well, there goes the 'hood .
Which do you guys like? Do you think anybody knows except us ?
Some time back a couple of guys and I were talking. They said they wished some of the "furrin cars" would use the model and year designations so they know what the heck they are. Everybody knows the Camaros, Mustangs, and Vettes but that foriegn stuff.... Well you know ! So I was looking at that .
PS - When I called to get a spot to put the car in a local show I asked if I could enter a Foriegn Car. What of kind of "Foriegn Car" they ask ? I say "Porsche - 1986." They say "Sure. It aint no Jap or Chinese car . "

I would say only enthusiasts would have a clue what 951 was about. I have a had a few ppl see my car and say *is that a mazda ?*, and my car has 944 on my license plate lol so 951 is going to go way over their heads. I now have Porsche written across the top of my windscreen, so no more mazda comments

I didn't know even what a 944 was until 1.5 years ago , then I bought mine and fell in love (in a car loving sort of way)... Didn't even know what a 951 was until I started reading up after buying my porsche. Hell, I didn't know a thing bout porsches at all until AFTER I bought mine

I was going to put GITY UP or something, but I knew I would need to go get another motor of at least 500 hp as every ricer in Houston would be trying to race me stoplight to stoplight.

I own an 88 944S na with a 951 front end and a CPR V1 splitter. Also, a Euro bumper and rear valance. Does that make mine a 947.5 ?
I think that I would have no trouble getting " Vanity " plates for it.

It was not too much of a vanity thing.
It is a 4 cylinder water burner Porsche after all. Not even a real Porsche as the guys tell me. Like a Cayenne. Like a Boxster. Like a Panamera. All those kind of not real Porsches that keep the dealers open and the Porsche marque afloat.
It was more to help identify the car some as the " furrin " guys were talking about.

I think, if I were to get a vanity plate it would say something like "CATFUD" or "NACHO" or "MOO" or something like that... something that will puzzle people. I think I've only seen two custom plates that were supposed to mean something that I found amusing.. one said
"SXRXRNR" and the other is on a buddy's Dodge Magnum, and it says "RIBBED"
