Default LSD fluid

What is the correct fluid for a LSD trans with cooler? I have heard to not use synthetic. I would like to change mine. Thanks

The shop that installed my GT LSD and rebuilt my transmission said to use Mobil synthetic.

Will be changing oil in my 968 trans with LSD soon, and this is what my owner manual call for__ SAE 75w90 API classification GL5 (or mil-L 215B)__ So this is what I'm planning to go with RED LINE HP all-Synthetic Formula.Anybody here got any feed back on it or use that oil in their cars with LSD.I would have prefer Swepco but can't get it up here in my part of the wood.__scph if I can run that oil in my 968 don't know why you shoudn't be able to use it in yours.Still check your owner manual & make sure it does call for API GL5.

Go for it. Oils are always a matter of opinion but you will never be judged wrong for using Brad Penn or Amsoil in your engine - Redline or Swepco in you transmission.

the 944 specs a GL-4 trans lube...Redline MT 90 or Amsoil MTG are two that are easily obtainable and very good. There is no reason at all to shy away from a synthetic or be worried about switching oil brands. A GL 4 lube has the coorect coefficient of friction and provides the best shift feel and synhcro life.

LOL I would I've like Brad Penn but it's not available here so I settle for Valvoline VR1 20w50.

Fintro___Yes I know (Castrol Syntec 75w90) and I got no problem switching to RED LINE which wasn't available three years ago when I change my tranny oil. _______ bgiere__ I'm going by what my owner manual specify & it's GL5,in my 83-944 NA (none LSD) which I've own 26 years oil specify was GL4 and this is what I use all them years .Had a chance to take her out for a spin last month trying it out for the guy I sold it to, and apart from the clutch needing a little adjustment shifting in all gears was a pleasure meaning whatever oil Porsche did recomanded did the job just fine.So if my 968 manual specify GL5 this is what I'm gone to use.The reason for asking about Red Line is to know if peoples using it had any drawback with it.

Thank you guys. I am not sure what the manual says. The trans is out of a Turbo S. Mine did not come with a LSD.

I run redline heavy shockproof in my Turbo S street gearbox and my 944 spec race open diff box and my 944 spec LSD box. No issues with any of them. No leaks either.

I tried Amsoil in my turbo LSD box (use Amsoil in almost everything) and I preferred the Swepco that came out of it. I now have Swepco in the spec car with lsd.

none are half as bad as running old oil. especially the way Spencer drives.

Spencer's out there. somewhere.

beating the hell out of his transmission oil.

Amsoil is okay but I switched to swepco (201 I think) when I got my LSD and it was a big improvement.
