Default 225/60/16 GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A

Four of these tires for only $100? It was a deal so I bought these tires that are a little bigger than stock, for my 86 turbo.

All four are 225/60/16 GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A. Does anyone know anything at all about these?

Compared to stock:
Sidewall height is 0.87 inches larger on these tires. The fronts will be .79 inches wider. The circumference is 5.5 inches larger than the fronts so if my speedometer says 65mph I'm actually going 69.58. (The speedometer cable is hooked up to the front?)

On any of the late cars (turbo's included) the speedo is electronic and run off of a sensor on the trasaxle... the early cars have the cable-drive speedo hooked up to the front.

I have the correct size tires on mine and your speedo is closer to your true speed than mine lol These cars are notorious for having wildly inaccurate speedo's, so your doing well to be that close

Goodyear Eagle RSA's are the usual OEM tire on Crown Vic Police Packages. I've had a few sets on my "company cars" over the years and have found them to be a good all around performance tire with all weather capability. That was a good deal you got on those. Looks like they are still on Ford Police steelies.

the speedo's innacuracy will go as high as 12 mph running your small tires.

set your speedo back about 4 mph and move up to 25 and a half inch tires.

gps will confirm an accurate speedo at 130 mph (if you don't mind your cars not making it to the redline).

That's kind of interesting! I looked up the info and found out you're spot on. They were OE as late as 1998 for Crown vics but were also used on lincoln Mark VIIIs. These tires better not be from 1998 (they are still sold today on tirerack, though).

These things got bad reviews on tirerack, so thanks for the comments guys. no way i would want to put bad tires on my 944.

It'll probably have a rally car look to it being an inch higher and with taller tires.

I am really thinking about selling those police tires/wheels and getting some appropriately-sized, new tires that have a good reputation.

These are rated very highly for a good price. Thoughts? Any comments or suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Let me know if you decide to sell those wheels. I have a 2003 CrownVic and I'd like a 2nd set for the MN winters! Thanks!

The RS-A would be aggravating if you do any spirited driving, IMHO they are an all-season not worthy of the Eagle name. The Direzza Star spec is a great tire worthy of track duty.
BTW, if the first 2 digits of the serial on those RS-A tires is 4B then they are made in the tire plant I work at. If they are indeed police car tires then they are also somewhat different from regular RS-A construction.
