Default No good 944's left?

Every '87 - '91 Porsche 944 I've looked at lately are cr@p! All have dash cracks, paint issues (peeling/fading) seats splitting at the seams. Signs of rust. And this is before you even open the hood.

I want my 944S back!

IMHO

There's plenty of nice ones out there that I've seen.

Most are owned by people here

They're out there. You just have to pay for them.

Hmm... so you're telling me that its hard to find a 25 year old car with no cosmetic issues? NO... I never would have guessed!

Its like a cycle, upkeep, restoration, rebuild. a 65 mustang in 1993 is equivelant to a 1985 944 now, a classic. Different types of cars for example muscle cars are fully rebuilt and still on the road today. People hunt down old mustangs and camaros in junkyards and fully restore them, i guess its about how much you really like that particular car if your willing to invest the money into it. Maybe because its a Porsche and it has that sleek design makes it harder to believe how old it really is compared to american cars from 50s' 60s, and 70s,.

You have got to look at the latest ebay. There's a Beautiful red one with 25k miles and it may be damn near perfect. Eleven Grand, yes, but it is awsome. I'd rather finish my rather unusual colored Nile Green one. Plus I like the mechanical stuff I'm rebuilding and restoring so it's more intimate and theraputic. Only cost me 4K. The mouse was extra (long story).

the average person that buys a 944 spends 5k for it...5k for a porsche, any porsche it's not going to be perfect. if you want one that's perfect it's gonna cost 15k...which is more than just about anyone will pay for a 944.

hell my stealth when i bought it had cosmetic issues, it was 15yrs old that new cost 42k, i still expected it not to be perfect. the newest 944's are 20yrs old, none of them will be perfect. find one that has 1 or 2 small issues and fix them. if it needs seat recovering, deal with it, fix it.

Problem is people are too cheap, especially in the na market. I have been trying to sell a stock, well maintained, perfect bodywork seats and dash, no issues, not guards red 89 car for three years. It's also a garage kept FL car and a perfect example of a 944. Worth every penny of the $6500 asking price. Yet, the best offer received was $4800. Just cheap, go buy a Kia and I'll enjoy the 944 for another year.

No, that's the market for clean n/a's.

You can make your Kia joke all you want, but in the end - you'll be the one sitting on a car when you really want the cash.

Its a numbers game and there are less and less that meet the criteria of "amazing car!" and "wait till you find a great one" is harder and harder to do, your pretty much going to be forced to get one that needs some work unless you get lucky or your willing to pay. How many nice cars have been parted out just because they were worth more as parts than as a complete car? How many "S" models have gone to the wayside just because they were not an S2 and "are no faster than an NA"? How many nice NA's are now spec cars? How many are getting hit by careless/distracted drivers every year? There are a lot of factors at work here to claw away at the remaining cars.

I paid 3k for my S and it needs a lot of work, but i'm getting a handle on it and pretty soon it will be a really nice car. Once paint is done i imagine ill be around 7 to 8k into it, and ill have a somewhat restored car that will be very enjoyable for me until i sell it (if i sell it). The dash will still have cracks though good luck getting one without that problem.

Looking for a quattrovalve, or "sixteen ventiler" S model. Your 951 is nice. But not what i'm looking for.
