Default Aftermarket Seat Question

Hey guys,

Just finishing up an interior "restoration" project that's been in the works for a while (I'll share pics when done). I've never bought aftermarket seats before, but my stock driver seat is pretty shot. I don't want to spend $600 bucks reupholstering it, as I'd rather get a lighter seat with better side support. Here are my questions:

1. What kind of brackets will I need to install aftermarket seats? I know it depends on the model, but none of my searches can come up with anything specific to the 944.

2. Any recommendations for seats in the $200-400 price range? Or is it the general opinion that I stick with the stock ones?

Thanks!

aftermarket seats are by and large ugly IMO. the stock seats are very comfortable and look 'right'.

regarding price, i had both my seats reupholstered in german leather for $700 out the door, in about a week's time. so one seat should fall into your price range.

^^listen to V2, Porsche factory seats are really very good compared to a lot of aftermarket. You can get a high-grade German vinyl recovering kit for $350 for both seats if you don't want to spend the money on leather. Chances are yours aren't leather anyway.

There's several vendors that make top of the line seat cover kits that match the original material. Look on previous posts and check a Panorama magazine, PCA monthly rag that has ads in it. They don't make junk. One of them that I called sent me different vinyl patches for color matching. They'll include instructions and it's not that hard.

Thanks for the insight. Looks-wise, definitely agree that the stock seats fit with the interior better than any aftermarket seats could.

Also, I'm not wanting a seat cover kit. Previous owner installed one on the driver's side, and it looks horrible.

How easy are those reupholster kits to install?

And on a side note, mytrplseven, what rims are those on your car?

Those links I posted are for reupholster kits not seat covers. You take the old vinyl/cloth off and these are a factory fit. They will look as good as factory new and take about half a day to do both seats, take your time. That eBay vendor supplies with the kit the tool and hog rings to do the job properly.

Check out Cerullo seats. Several styles, in leather or vinyl.

I have Cerullo seats in mine; I like them... and Received compliments on them several times.

Another option would be to fine some used 911 or Boxster seats on Craigslist/Junkyard/Rennlist...

IF you do wasn't aftermarket seats, like mine in my thread here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...entable-2.html

They are cheapo seats, similar to jc whitney. I took the sliders off of my old seats, and drilled two new small holes to the sliders fit it to the seats. This way, it bolts right into the car, no matter what seats u buy.

Just out of sheer curiosity, how comfortable are those cheapo seats?

And those reupholster kits look great. . I emailed the seller to see if he could put some red perforated vinyl in for the inserts. Good deal for $300 IMO (better than the $600 quoted by my local upholstery shop).

The seats I have aren't very padded, but I find them quite comfortable... Matter of opinion I guess. I will be looking to sell my seats fairly soon, to re cover my old ones... If you're interested in my cheap seats.
