Best 944 S2 bolt on aftermarket exhaust? (yes I did a search first :)
Before anyone gets upset, I did do a search first but didn't really come up with any good threads that featured bolt on exhaust from the companies that make them for the 944 (particularly the S2 cabriolet).
So with that being said, what do you guys think of the exhaust offered from companies like Lindsey, Fabspeed, GT Racing, etc? I'm only interested in "bolt on" exhaust not unless you have something really special
While sound is subjective, I'm hoping there's something out there that sounds close to F1 (I know, dreaming right) but more importantly something that matches/fits the 944 profile.
I haven't really heard (even on youtube) many of the listed brands above and the threads that did have some sound files were old with dead links.
While we're at it, is there a proven system(s) out there that make the most power from the S2 3L. motor?
VIDEOS encouraged please

I had a custom exhaust system made for my S2. It is excellent.
If you live anywhere near southeast Michigan - I can put you in touch with the fabricator.
If not - I have nothing to offer.

IMHO, the OEM exhaust actually works quite well. An alternative to consider is purchasing (or fabbing) a cat by-pass pipe. Better flow, less weight, although the raspy exhaust note is either loved or hated. Depends upon emissions requirements in your State. As far a power, there's a limited amount of gain to be had through custom tuning. If you're proximate to the DC/Baltimore/Frederick area, I can recommend a very good tuning shop.

I was up at like 2am last night researching exhausts for my car! ha ha
I have researched Exhaust Options many times and seem to come to the same conclusion.
One of the Nicest Sounding, Best Looking, and Least Expensive Cat-Back Bolt on Exhaust is *Drum Roll Please* The Dansk Stainless Steel Cat-Back
This is a 2.5l 944na Video, but..
and
About $450 for the 944S2...
The 2.5l exhaust is different and is a little less expensive.
I would not really recommend going with a bigger Exhaust size; it will not sound better, and performance will not improve... in-fact it may suffer
As for sounding like an F1 car; What you can do is Build a 2.4l V8 that is capable of Revving to 18,000 rpms! That should give you the sound your after!

Gotcha. I just passed my last emissions! (Car is 25 yrs old and Exempt starting next year)
I have thought that my Cat is clogged for a while now, and would like to Replace it with a Test Pipe, and Install a Dansk Exhaust... I imagine a exhaust shop could just weld one up for me...
p.s. Excuse me veleno for side tracking your thread a little bit...

Sweet, try removing it and knocking the internals out with a steel pipe, until you are ready to have a shop weld in a section.
Veleno, I have heard a lot of 944's and some of the best sounding NA's are ones with Dansk cat backs.

I have been thinking of cutting out the cat and welding in a straight pip, leaving the stock resonator and muffler in place. That seems to be the cheapest and easiest solution to start.

For my 2.5 na, which should roughly transfer over to your S2:
A test pipe replacing the cat gave the car a slightly raspier and at the same time deeper tone. Definitely an improvement and the butt dyno says it pulled better, but it was still pretty quite.
If you want great/louder sound out of your S2/NA, the borla XR-1 muffler(from lindsey racing) I think makes the meanest sound the 944 can get while still being okay for the street. It has to be welded on, but MIDAS did it for just under $100. It is loud, but keep in mind this is with a combination with the test pipe. Searching WILL tell you all about how this will move the power to the top end, cause the car to run lean, etc. But I think it sounds awesome. You may want something quieter and bolt on if you're neighbors will mind and if you ever plan on switching back to stock.

You might want to keep that rear flange setup from the stock cat to the muffler. Not having that makes it more "fun" to drop the transaxle.

My problem is I want more power and more sound , but I don't really want to wake the neighbors when I leave at 6:30 in the morning. Or come home at midnight in the winter. Yes, long work hours during the winter.
I did drill holes in the intake box, but not in the center. I did 4 1" holes in the top and bottom for a bit more air and a bit more rasp sound; and it has done the trick for a bit, but I still need more.
" For all you guys that will tell me that I ruined a perfectly good air box, I will tell you you ... who cares. I have driven her in down pours and on 105 degree days and she puuuurrrrsss very nicely in every situation. I don't know if I would recommend it on a stock chip, but certainly on a Wilks or Autothority chip. That's your call."
