Beautiful car

Is the front bumper shock on the drivers side a little colasped? It is a easy fix.

To be honest I haven't even seen the car in person yet. It belonged to a gentelman who passed away and his son sold it to me. The father owned it since new and they have all service records. I got a great deal on it so I jumped on it. They replaced timing belt and water pump less than 2000 miles ago. I will need to fix a window that doesnt work, ac needs charge and need to replace plastic gears on sunroof. Can't tell if there is a shock issue or not. Is that an adjustment or somthing that needs to be replaced sands944? Thanks for the heads up!!

For your enjoyment...

2 years ago I received a phone call stating the driver was 4 hours from my home.

Panic set in!

I had purchased a 1987 951 from a great guy in AZ (Thanks again Scott!) and was having it shipped to me in NJ via a closed carrier truck. It was supposed to arrive Tuesday (it was now Sunday before), I still hadn't cleared space in the garage (full of crap) or withdrawn the $1000 cash I still needed to pay the driver. It was pouring rain and work had called me to come in at 7PM for an emergency (it was 3). Oh...and the ATM would only allow me to withdraw $400.

A jackrabbit on redbull I was. (Yoda accent)

Cleaned the garage like I was possessed.
Borrowed money from friends & relatives close by (no one has cash anymore).
Called driver twice for updated ETA (I'm never late for work...gonna be close).
Showered and dressed for work.
Exhaled.

...and a huge truck pulled up in front of my house.

Still pouring rain. The car was unloaded, gave it the "once over" (first time seeing it), paid the driver and felt months of tension leave my body as it was evident I had made the right choice, pulled my new "toy" into the garage, kissed my wife and kids goodbye and went to work for the night.

I couldn't wait to get home and "touch it"...the 951 in my garage that is.

Still smirk when I think about that "first day".

Awesome stories!! So funny that it was pouring rain yesterday when I got it. Was going to leave it at home for the day but couldn't resist and drive it all day!!! I am amazed how tight the car is. It was definately well cared for but it's still 23 years old!! Build quality is out of this world!!! Also thanks to everyone's kind words. I am finding that Porsche owners are the most fanatic, nicest car people on the planet!!

It is as simple as unbolting the two large bolts holding the bumper shocks to the metal front bumper to remove the metal bumper than pull out the colapsed shock and replace with a good one. I would look on ebay as there are plenty of dismantlers selling still good and useable parts for the 944. Make sure you get the longer bumper shock that belongs to the NA as the 951 has shorter shocks.

Good to see it arrived unharmed.

Congrats ,take care of it don't abuse it & maintain it properly and you'll have years of service from her.BTW resist the temptation of overly modifying your 944.

Congrats on the new toy, and welcome to the insanity.

Yes you should be able to find a replacement shock really cheap. Worse case just take it out, drill a hole in it (wear protective glasses), pull it out, and reinstall as a temp fix. Some of us drill them and compress them to do what we call the wolf bumper mod. You might can see mine in my avatar.

Again congrats

You're right - lots of good Porsche folks out there, and we're all in this together! Look around for a local PCA or POC club and check out some club events. You'll probably find a few nearby 924/944/968 people to hang with and share stories.

Casey,

Welcome......and you are right there is a great core of guys on this forum who will go out of their way to help you....if you haven't noticed they already gave you some great advice in this thread already regarding your bumper.

Make a note of those who have already posted a welcome and you find some of the core group of "good" guys on here.

Again, welcome to the addiction.

Scott
