+1 they are not fiberglass, they are some type of very light moulded resin, you can see the cast marks in them and the part #'s are moulded in. I wouldnt be surprised if the lights and brackets weigh more than the actual bumper. I will check.

I think you should make the light mounting points out of metal and mould them into the fiberglass ,also reinforce the corners with metal strips, those are very weak points on the euro bumper. I had 3 of them and 2 had cracked corners and all 3 broken light mounting points.

So, some sort of thermosetting plastic. If the original part is moulded then it makes more sense to try and recreate the mold. Pretty sure the lights will weigh as much / more as the euro drivers light has a heavy glass lens. There's not much to the corner indicators though.

Will take mine off next weekend and have a closer look.

Oh really? How do you know?
Because i have at least 5 rear bumpers. Some of them are damaged, so i can easily see they are not fibreglass.

Just wieghed the stripped down euro bumper and its about 8#'s. Also, closely looking at the design it seems they might have built in some bump absorption into the assembly. Those brackets are two pieces of pressed steel intricately welded together. Have to ask why they did this as it seems complicated. Can only assume they are designed to crumple and absorb a slow speed bump without damaging the metal frame they are attached to. Maybe they designed the sides the same way, maybe they are thin at the edges to break first instead of pushing into the fender. Just a thought.

I think if you made them you would have a number of folks here lining up. It may be worth noting that although you can find them from time to on eBay UK you should also look on eBay Germany:

www.ebay.de

I picked mine up and had it shipped to the US about 4 years ago for approximately $180 USD from there.

Thanks.

By the way if you want to search for a euro bumper on eBay Germany use the search term "Porsche Stossange" or "944 Stossange".

That black 944 N/A looks great. Maybe as good as the turbo IMO.

IntrepidAgent also has a FOHA lip - a nice looking part too.

Having taken a detailed look at the bumper it might end up costing nearly as much as a good second hand part to make if I try to use fibreglass - even factoring in a modest cost for my time.

I'm looking at a moulded plastic part next - so it would be handy to know what the original was made from. This could be much quicker produce, given a bigger investment in the tooling up front.
