Latest project and a mystery - 89 951
Picked this car up out of Richmond VA from an impound lot with help from Rennlist member JohnKoaWood - thanks John! It is a 1989 944 turbo in black metallic. Odometer is at 100443 and is broken. There were some records in the car that show it was purchased new by Gerald Jackson of Medfield, MA. It was last owned by a John and Kinn Adams of Powhatan, VA and had a tag that said "Kinns" on it. The last service record is from 7/24/2004 and shows the car has 100115 miles on it at the time. I am curious to know how it ended up forgotten and neglected.
I drained out the fuel when I got it and started it on some carb cleaning fluid. Then put in new gas and she is running fine. Lifters chattered for a while but oil pressure is good and she runs cool. The tires on the original wheels were dry rotted so I picked up a set of Boxster wheels to roll around on for the time being.
List of issues are
-Broken windshield
-Rusted out battery tray that I repaired
-Clock dead
-Trim around clock broken
-AC doesn't work
-AC button broken
-Fan **** broken
-Driver's seat power motor gears stripped
-Sunroof gears stripped
-Hood shocks shot
-Hatch shocks shot
-Rust at rear of drivers door opening
-Center console armrest hinge broken
-Glovebox door supports missing
-Power steering yawning
-Driver's taillight full of water
-Rear hatch key release not working
-Wiper blades shot
-Window tinting bubbling
-Rear view mirror mount fell off
-Water damage to top of door panels
-Water damage to headliner between sunroof and hatch
Overall it is pretty rough but this is the second day I've driven the car to work and am enjoying it Here are some pics below and a link to an Excel spreadsheet of the records. If anyone recognizes the car or has any ideas as to its history let me know. I pulled off the rear spoiler because I've always liked that look - just wish the rear bumper wasn't sticking out so far.

Congrats on getting it running. The body looks pretty nice and the interior looks very nice (with the exception of the dash and some major elbow grease). Good save on this.

Nice find! Leather sports seats, 10-speaker sound system panels. LSD by chance? Is that a later Blaupunkt? Love the graphic equalizer, very 80's. Never seen the point of why they split those rear seats. GL and enjoy!

This car was rough when I looked it over, but I saw the potential.
Had Josh passed, it would have gone home with me..
