Default Stuck lifter

I have a noticeable ticking from the top end. Are there any products that I can safely use to try and free the stuck lifter or am I looking at replacing the lifter? Car has always received synthetic oil changes on time. Currently running Mobil 1 15W-50.

I have never used the product before. How much and how long should I leave it in the crankcase?

I use half a little bottle in the fuel and 1/2 in crank case. Drive it for up to 50 miles and change your oil.

....and filter.

If seafoam does not work...

Do not just pick up a can of cheap Engine Flush at the parts store.

You could put a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase --Drain out a quart first.

An old farmers trick was to put a quart up to a 50-50 mix of diesel or Kerosene (refined diesel) into the crankcase and run it for a while.

Seriously, If you have a lot of lifter noise, you are going to have to pull the cam housing (ie valve cover) and check for "soft" lifters. So try the Seafoam first and then decide. Seafoam is compatable with synthetic oils.

I will try the Sea Foam and see what happens. The noise is not that bad but definitely noticeable with the hood open.

Another possibility for the "ticking" at the top end.

Check the cam gear bolt. There is a new upgraded bolt that is available. The old bolt may have worked loose. DO NOT retorque the old bolt. It is designed to stretch.

Damage will happen if it is the cam gear bolt. It will ruin the keyway on the cam shaft.

When I first bought my 944S, I had a lot of lifter trouble. You can add a quart of ATF fluid to the oil let it idle for about 5-10 minutes then change the oil. Worked 100% for me. Try a search, Many people use this method.

Yes, ATF has very good detergent properties. I got a bottle of Sea Foam and will give it a try first.

Has the car been in storage, or has the condition worsened over time in service?
