An interesting side note. I was at the Porsche dealership picking up parts for my 951. I was talking with the parts manager about some of the older cars. He said that "if the rear hatch is damaged the car is totaled" in whcih he said the hatch and body and frame cutout there are all off the scale.

I can see problems if my 951 gets hit. My regular insurance company, not Hagertys or other collector car company like that, just finished an insurance valuation of my 951. It was done by them, for them, at my request. I had to take the car in for pics etc and provide the work and receipts for the "restoration and re-build" on the car. They came up with a $21,000 value which they placed on the car. So if I get hit, I can see the other guys insurance getting a KBB of $6,000 with the "comparables."

In any event I hope this works out OK for the OP.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you're OK. I'll echo previously stated comments about being very wary of initial offers by the insurance company. We've actually used USAA for quite a number of years now, and they've always treated us well, but I think the insurance industry over all is rife with crooks and thieves.

That said, if you need any help whatsoever with parting out, fixing, etc. feel free to shoot me a note. I'm right here in the Springs and can lend a hand or two if you ever need it.

an interesting add-on to post # 31. indeed it doesn't take much to get these cars "wrong." like the cobalt 968 i went to go see in Cookesville, TN back in May. from the driver's frame of reference the front of the car was bent to the right maybe about 1/8~3/16". neither door closed properly, the hood was offline with the header panel (the header panel is actually part of the front bumper cover) by about 3 feet, and the rear of the hood was also quite noticably offline with the windshield... and of course, the rear hatch creaked like an old wooden floor.

oh, and after we drove the car, the hood ended up in a different place than it had been.

Back to the OP, like the others have said, go to doctor and get checked out. They will recommend physical therapy and most will take a lien on the settlement. Post in the OT forum and see if there is a fellow lister attorney who is nearby and wiling to help you out. I have been quite pleasently suprised at the offers I have seen people make there.

Thanks again guys, i went and saw my doc today and he sent me in for some xrays. I should be hearing back on it tomorrow. USAA has been pretty good to me so far and they are going to look at the car by friday. Meanwhile they put me into a rental (yuck, a focus) and ive been able to work. So its a waiting game on them to see what they offer me. I've got a lot of printouts of locally available 944's and the NADA retail sheet for it, so i'm ready to push back on any lowball offers. Once thats done its on to stripping the car, and getting a new 944. Im really liking the idea of an s2 or a turbo.......

Just a thought... see if you can find an adjuster from an uninvolved insurance company and pick his brain. I recently met an adjuster for a major ins. company and I talked to him at length about my experience with my accident and he pointed out several instances of my ins. company bending the rules to low ball me. There are definitely regulations about that, but ins. adjusters assume you don't know the rules, and some of them will use that against you...

I would heavily recommend approaching every interaction with them as though they are trying to swindle you.

I really hope your experience doesn't suck as bad as mine did, but be prepared to fight, you may have to.

I've got a friend in the insurance biz that i've talked too, his advise was to find and print out examples of comparable cars for sale. I've got 5 examples ranging from 4200 to 9500 that are for sale around here and also an NADA print out showing low/average/high retail on the car. So I'm prepared to show the adjuster these so i can refute his low ball offer with "hey, this is what it going to cost me to get another comparable Porsche"

Are you selling your 89 or your 951? An 89 would be nice as well I want a little more go than my 24 had, it struggled in traffic up by the eisenhower tunnel.

Stimpy, its a 2011 4dr. Honestly its not a bad ride, it has no soul, but its getting 26.7mpg with the A/C blasting around town and the ride is firm but not jarring. It would be a decent daily. I feel like im ten feet tall driving it after driving the 924 everyday for 3 years though
