Default 944 S2 Speed Sensor Question

My crack reference sensor plug has crumbled a part, and when removing it I noticed my car doesn't have a speed sensor. Should the opening in the bell housing have a plug of some type? Also, where is the speed sensor on these cars. Thanks for the help.

The speedometer sensor is on top of the transmission.

One sensor (speed+ref) on the 16V motors.

IIRC on an S2 (16V motors) the sensor on the bell housing is the speed sensor, the reference sensor (hall sender) is in the distributor housing for the cam timing.. but I could be wrong!

And yes there are 2 sensors...

I believe you are correct. One in the bell housing and the hall sender at the cam.

No. One sensor in the bell housing for speed and ref. There is a 'missing tooth' on the notched speed gear that the 16V dme's pick off as reference pulse.
