Default broken clutch pedal spring

I am looking at buying a '91 S2 and when going over the car with a fine toothed comb I found that the clutch pedal spring is broken. the pedal feels super stiff and catches very early in the throw.

what are your thoughts on it?

could it mean a bigger problem?

Default broken cluth pedal spring

I just bought a 91 944S2 cab and ithas the same symptom...cluth goes to the floorboard and stays there. I have to manually pull it back. I have to repair it and asume it it is the spring. Let me know if you get it replaced, I'd like to know how. Attachment 548999

If you are talking about the big spring in front of the clutch it is for assistance on depressing the clutch, not to help return it. The clutch pedal sticking to the floor may be air in the lines.

This is not the same symptom as the op. The spring being broken and the pedal being stiff and catching early is most commonly caused by a badly adjusted clutch rod. There are some critical measurements for the pedal/rod assembly. An educated guess would be that the op car had some clutch work done in the past and the pedal assembly was not adjusted correctly.

Your problem is the pedal going to the floor and not returning. The most common cause is that you have a fluid leak and air in the clutch system.

Thanks MAGK944.
My pedal does not go to the floor. in fact its hard as hell to even push it half way. I will check adjustment and look for a new spring. every thing else looks very solid on the car so I may be a new owner of an s2

Everything you need to know is here: http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/clutch-04.htm

If replacing the spring and adjusting correctly doesn't work I would be concerned that there isn't an issue with the actual clutch...$$$'s

yeah Magk Im a big fan of Clarks Garage. I currently have a 88 na that I feel like Ive built from the tires up. I just didnt know how much effect the spring would have or if there is a much bigger problem. I went ahead and bought the S2 and figure all the money i would throw at the '88 I could throw at a near perfect 91 S2. ill post pics this week.

thanks for your help
