Vinyl vs painted stripe?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of buying a vinyl stripe:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/porsche-924-944-968-racing-stripe-decals-sticker-/120351991626?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c0589a74a
or painting the stripes yourself?

Vinyl will fade and tatter over time, paint wont..
Vinyl is removable, Paint isn't..
Vinyl will protect the paint beneath it from scratching / hazing / fading, and when removed will leave a nice fresh stripe on the paint where it was..
Paint is more expensive to put on, but will last far longer than the 2-5 years the vinyl will last (without too much degradation of the vinyl)..
Paint is much more difficult to remove.. (sanding vs heat gun)
FWIW, once my 951 returns to the street, it will be wearing vinyl stripes.. if I like them enough over time, they will eventually be painted on in place of the vinyl..

I know what stripes you have johnkaowood, the link I posted above are what I would choose, very similar.
The thing is, I want red car/ silver stripe, but I want my teledials to match the stripe. So paint would be easier to match the same on wheels, but I think vinyl sounds easier/cheaper

I put some German flag color vinyl stripes on my front right fender as a test to see if I liked them. When getting ready to paint I removed the vinyl and it took the old paint up with it. It was probably due to the old paint being very, well old. Am sanding and preping the entire car so it was no big deal to me. But just be advised.
