Default VIDEO - Oil Pressure at idle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gN7lsV3ghU

Hi all.. ( also posted on Peli )
Looking fwd to some opines on the oil bar after a mild 30 minute drive today at 85F ambient..

Is the idle flux evidence of vac leaks?
I know we talk about such things often but the degree of flux is what I'm trying to learn about..

Changed out the plugs to WR7DC+ and Valvoline Racing VR1 Dino 20w-50 yesterday.

Car runs nicely...

Thanks!
Mikey

pressure could be a little high, but maybe the oil cooler is doing its job really well and keeping it thick...

here its been 90-100F the last few weeks and with my big air-oil cooler my idle oil pressure is 3-3.5bar and i too use 20w50 dinosaur blood

idle doesnt seem to move too much, but wouldnt hurt to go over vac lines

Your Temp seems Cool, and your oil Pressure seems high...

Honestly i would rather have this than the opposite situation!

The oil pressure needle bouncing a little happens to mine also... My oil pressure (warm) sits around 2.5 and 3 bars at idle, but my Coolant temp is usually higher than yours..

We used to drive past Dover AFB en route to Rehoboth from Wilmington.

Thanks to everyone for your insights y'all!

If my oil pressure sits at a little under 2 at idle after short drive in the NM heat, is this bad?

^ Nope. At idle (when warm) it should be between 2-3 bar. It'll vary based on temp, oil, and the RPM your car idles at. My recently rebuilt engine will go just under 2 if it's hot.

Just 20W50

Edit: Also, pressure under load is a better indicator than pressure at idle (ex. 4-5 bar when >3k rpm).

My engine idles right around 650, and always drives nice and cool... Even though it's 90-100 degrees outside.

Your temp sits just where mine does. Idle is about the same, as well. My idle oil pressure (w/ 20w50) sits at the 2 bar when she's warmed up after driving for a bit. 4-5 at speed. (86 951, btw)

One thing does have me a bit concerned. When driving and she's good and warmed up, cooling fans starting while idling will cause a flicker of the oil pressure light only for a second before she recovers. Oh well, she's not driven much for other reasons, and a future oil pan gasket job will likely include rod bearing replacement... Oh, the joy.

So for those of us who pin 5 bars for the first five minutes of driving, what actual bar would we average for those first 5mins if we had the older 924 10-bar oil gauge? Maybe 7bar?
