Mobil 1 15W-50
I went looking for some Mobil 1 15W-50 for my next oil change and could not locate it a two local retailers. One clerk said they haven't carried it for a few months and it may have been discontinued? Has anyone heard otherwise? They did have 5W-50 but I would like the thicker viscosity for the warmer summer months or should I try something different?

You would want the M1 15W 50 for the special elevated zinc content for our types of engines.
EPA / green mentality has driven zinc out of the specs for most other oil selections. Lots of information on this if you search. Turns out ZDDP is a very important lubricant for the surfaces of the camshaft and tops of the lifters. Not so important on modern engines though. One group also suffering is the Jeep crowd with the flat tappet 4.0.
NAPA has quart bottles on sale at 4.99 nationally thru June. I'm stocking up since WalMart has nationally discontinued carrying it ( they until recently had 5 quart containers for prices ranging from $22 to $27). Normal price at advanc auto here where I live is over $8/q.

I run Shell Rotella T6 5w-40. It's a diesel oil and contains 1200ppm, which is higher than Mobil's 1000ppm. As far as the weight, my oil pressures are fine and I live in the hot south. If your's are low, then something is off with the engine (worn rod/main bearings, scored lifter bores, etc.)

Although, it occurs to me, I've never seen a Walmart in B.C. They've got to be there, right?

OMG
The OP never asked about zinc content or anything else!! We don't need another "oil" conversation!!!
I use the same stuff, and its been harder and harder to find. I used to get it at Checker, and they quit carrying it. They said I was the only person that bought it LOL.
Last I looked, Pep-Boys has it... but that was a while ago. I think Amazon will be the go-to spot for it. Their prices are cheap, so it evens out with the shipping. Might have to buy it in bulk too, so I have some in reserve.
I don't think there are that many people who want to use that oil anymore.

I use Amsoil 15W-50 in one of my race cars. It seems that it is hard to find 20W-50 these days (my preferred oil for my older race engines).
Not sure of the ZDDP content. Would need to do some research before making any claims.

The 15W part of your oil designation is the viscosity of the oil when cold. The 50 part is the viscosity when warm/hot. Therefore the two oils you have listed should offer the same protection when hot and the 5W will flow easier at startup, allowing better lubrication when the engine is cold.
I'm not sure if the ZDDP is higher in the 15W50 than the 5W50, but if they are the same than I wouldn't hesitate using the 5W50 in the summer. Personally I run 20W50 Brad Penn semi-synthetic with lots of ZDDP for older engines. My car seems to work very well on it.

Hmmm....I just picked up two quarts last night at Advanced Auto Parts. Found it in NJ also. But I am worried when the day comes and it isn't there. It will be like a drug addict not getting his fix.

The OP didn't ask about oil. He asked where to find it..... So "search" doesn't apply here

He asked where to find it (I assume) in Canada -- I haven't seen it in too many places, and a lot of the chain stores that we have up here don't carry it, even if they do in the US.
