Looks like the 968 oil cooler and lines go for $100 to $200, better then buying them from dcauto for $400. Question is would it bolt right in place where the S2 cooler is...

The S2 cooler/filter housing will bolt to the 968 block. Same goes for the 944 turbo thermostat/filter housing.

Ahh nice, so I would be able to put the filter housing on the block and use the S2 lines and cooler. I wonder why the kept changing the lines an orientation of the cooler between the S2, turbo and 968

Yup, just bolt it on (using the alignment tool). I'm using a 944T housing on my 968 block.
My, guess for changing it, would be differences in available space.

Reviving this thread as I'm close to picking up a 968 engine. Do the S2 fuel lines screw right into the 968 fuel rail or would I need to come up with a custom solution? The part numbers are different for the lines and rail but the designs are very similar.

Krazykari Im in the middle of the swap right now, i got some aftermarket fuel lines for my 89 na, what i have done is taken my fpr off my 2.7l and swapped it to the 968 motor, that way i didnt have to hack up any fuel lines.

Swap is not in the plans at the moment, trying to nail down the cooling gremlins in my S2 engine so I can get the car sold.

I am reviving this thread as we have just put a 968 engine into my 944S2 (90). It seems that we have wiring issues.

We have followed the Todd Holyoak's wiring notes as follows:

(a) We have not done any alterations to the 14 pin connector by the brake booster. However, we have disconnected the green wires from the ignitor module and spliced these together.
(b) On the 14 pin connector DME passenger footwell we have taken pin 5 (12 v fuse 17) from the 944S2 pin connector and connected it to pin 7 (Switched 12V from alarm) on the 968 pin connector.

When we then turned the ignition the engine was cranking and we had a spark. But we did not seem to have fuel injection (although fuel pump was working). Please let me know if you have an idea where I am going wrong here.

Also we still have an unconnected 10 pin connector (with 5 pins) in the passenger footwell which seems to come from the 968 engine harness but has no equivalent on the 944S2 side (see attached pictures). Does anyone know where this should go?

10 pin connector in passenger footwell

5 pins (taken out of the 10 pin connector)

5 pins (taken out of the 10 pin connector)

All pin connections in the passenger footwell

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think I have found the answer to the unconnected 5 pins in the passenger footwell.

Judging from the wiring diagram it should belong to the automatic transmission which makes sense as the 968 engine originally came out of an automatic car and the wiring harness was still attached to it.

The second pin connector in the footwell is for the automatic transmission (Code M249)

Am I assuming correctly that we can simply ignore the extra pins i.e. no re-wiring needs to be done in relation to this. Or would the whole engine wiring harness have to be replaced with one for a manual transmission?
