Default How many have done the A/C delete without the bracket?

I'm debating removing my A/C system while I have it easily accessible (it doesn't work anyway). I was wondering if anyone has put significant mileage on a car with A/C deleted using just a shorter belt (This Thread), and whether you'd recommend someone to do just that?

Edit: Just saw this: http://www.944spec.org/944SPEC/techn...delete-bracket. Thoughts?

Ran it a little on the track car, but recently bought the relocating bracket to allow me to improve my induction setup. No issues while I was running it. I bought a bracket at Pep Boys and cut it down to fit.

I just bought mine like that. Someone broke the compressor previously and removed it. I've put probably over 1000 miles on thecar so far with no I'll effects. I am looking forward to getting the AC fixed though.

Hmm, from the article...
This method worked for the #95 944-Spec car for the race season and also for the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race. The alternator did not come loose nor did the belt need to be retighten.
I think a number 944 spec guys are still using this system. I pefer the a/c delete bracket as it lowers CG slightly, but this appears to work just fine.

I've been using that 944 spec delete method for 2 years now. I bought a plate of aluminum to cut a delete bracket out of, but I've been too busy with other things so I still run the cheap fix.

It's definately cost effective !!

Relocating the alternator does make it a lot easier to reach!

...having said that, I miss my AC.

Thanks for the replies. 25 hours of non-stop race abuse does say good things for the modification I have to admit haha. Looks like I'll take that route, time to get cracking
